Do you have a burning question about boxed wine? Let us know! We love to talk about wine, and would be happy to help! As we continue to get your questions, we will update this page with the ones most commonly asked.
Is the date stamped on the top of the box the expiration date?
Nope! Unlike the yogurt/science experiment sitting in the back of the refrigerator, the date stamped on Cape Vida wines is the date the wine was packaged at the winery.
How long should I wait to drink Cape Vida wines?
Drink it today! Unlike its glass bottle counterparts, wine in a bag-in-box format will not improve with age. Due to the microscopic holes allowing the free flow of oxygen to penetrate the bag, the wine has a limited shelf life. For the best taste, we recommend drinking Cape Vida within 12-14 months after the date stamped on the top of the box. This doesn’t mean it has gone bad after 14 months, but it will not taste as intended.
I’m keeping the wine for an upcoming party. Where should I store it?
Store the box the same as you would a glass bottle. At room temperature or slightly below and in a dry, cool, and dark climate such as a cellar, wine refrigerator, or castle.
Where is the spout?
It’s in there! You might have to poke around to find it but we promise, it’s securely attached to the bag inside.
The spout is facing sideways. Should I turn the box on its side to consume?
You can if you want. We recommend simply twisting the spout piece so it is facing down towards the bottom of the box for optimal use. But if you want to keep it on it’s side, that’s up to you. The wine won’t flow as quickly and you may need to tilt the box to free the wine.
I like my wine cold. Can I put it in the refrigerator?
By all means! The box was designed to withstand the temperature and humidity level of most refrigerators. We keep our white wine in the refrigerator next to the kale (we love kale).
